On June 8, our Institute and the Department of Economics at AUB held a closed roundtable on how to manage Lebanon’s gold, evaluating the desirability of monetizing some of its holdings, its legality, and the political and technical feasibility of such an operation. The discussion gathered experts from the domains of academia, banking, finance, and the public sector, with the purpose of developing a reasoned framework for thinking about a complex policy question that can no longer be ignored.

 On June 4, 2026, our Institute in collaboration with the Prague Center for Middle East Relations at CEVRO University organized a closed roundtable on "Lebanon in the Eye of the Storm: War, Diplomacy, and State Survival." Institute Director Joseph Bahout and Regional and Int'l Affairs Cluster Coordinator Yeghia Tashjian led the discussion, moderated by the Center's Director, Filip Sommer, which addressed Lebanon's state of affairs from both a regional and local perspective - including the war with Israel, Hizballah's positions, and the complex repercussions on the domestic front - and what future scenarios may look like as a result.
