The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the department of Economics at AUB hosted a talk titled "Growth Spillovers for the MENA Region" by Sumru Guler Altug, Professor and Chair in the Department of Economics at AUB on Monday, September 23rd in the IFI conference room. In the talk, Dr. Altug presented the role of spillovers in economic growth for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by accounting for spatial effects.

Migration "Crisis" and the Rise of Populism in Europe

The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) hosted an event titled "Migration 'Crisis' and the Rise of Populism in Europe" by Marco Borraccetti, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Bologna, and Lilli Banholzer, PhD, Professor at the University of Mannheim, on Thursday, September 19th in the IFI conference room. The talk focused on the rise of populist parties in Europe, especially in  Germany and Italy, and the impact it possessed on migration policies manifested in recent legislations and political positions on the Global Compact on Refugees and Migration.

Integration of Syrian Students into Lebanese Higher Education

The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) hosted a conference titled "Integrating Syrians into Lebanese Higher Education through Recognition of Qualifications” on Thursday, September 12 at IFI’s Auditorium (Level B). This conference was an activity within the scope of the project implemented by IFI in partnership with the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT) as part of the Grant scheme of the HOPES project funded by the European Union’s Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian Crisis, the ‘Madad Fund’, and implemented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) together with the British Council, Campus France, and Nuffic.
