THE ISSAM FARES INSTITUTE FOR PUBLIC POLICY AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at AUB, in collaboration with She Is Arab hosted a webinar titled "A New Approach to Supporting Civil Society" on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 3 pm. COVID-19 is not only a health crisis, it is also a severe social and economic crisis for the most vulnerable people around the world. In MENA, millions of refugees, families in the lowest income bracket, the elderly and more have turned to civil society as their only hope for income, food, medicine and other vital services. While nonprofits and social enterprises have mobilized quickly in support of the communities they serve, the demand far outweighs the limited resources and capacity of most. In this webinar, panelists shed light on how civil society is adapting in the short-term and the steps they need to follow to make long over due changes to survive and become more sustainable. Through their roles in research, advocacy and funding, the panelists discussed:
1) The existential threat of COVID-19 on civil society in MENA 2) Their call for change in the way the sector operates and how it is supported by donors 3) The way forward and what individuals, companies and philanthropists can do to support the most vulnerable people in the region Watch the re-run Comments are closed.
