THE ISSAM FARES INSTITUTE FOR PUBLIC POLICY AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
IFI’s Climate Change and Environment Program (CC&E), in collaboration with Awan Media held the final event of the “Data Journalism for Human Rights” training program, with the support of Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) and the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) on August 7, 2023. Speakers provided insights covering media studies, data analysis, and environmental journalism throughout three sessions, organized as follows: The first session examined media audiences, delving into topics such as the consumption patterns of digital media content in Lebanon, the significance of trends on platforms such as Twitter/X, the appeal of interactive and concise content formats, and the broader global landscape of media content production and consumption. The second session focused on access to information, considering the challenges associated with data abundance and information freedom. Participants explored how media responds to environmental crises and the intricate relationship between journalists and researchers in the context of environmental issues.
Finally, the third session discussed data journalism and visual storytelling, addressing innovations in video archive management, the hurdles of data journalism in the Arab World, and the complexities surrounding information overload and problematic narratives in environmental journalism.
